Stacking a Times Prime coupon with a gift voucher: how it works
Combining a membership coupon with a discounted gift voucher can cut a dine-in bill sharply. Here is the method, the maths and the checks to do first.
Some memberships, such as Times Prime, include restaurant coupons. Brands also sometimes sell gift vouchers below face value. Used together, they can bring a dine-in bill down a lot. The founder used this to turn a ₹1,000 Pizza Hut bill into about ₹550.
The method
- Get the coupon. Find the restaurant coupon in your membership app's benefits section, for example a fixed amount off above a minimum bill.
- Buy a gift voucher at a discount. Look for that brand's gift voucher being sold below its face value.
- At the restaurant, apply the coupon to your bill first.
- Pay part of what is left with the gift voucher and the rest normally.
Doing the maths honestly
Using the Pizza Hut example: a ₹1,000 bill, minus a ₹400 coupon, leaves ₹600. A ₹100 gift voucher covers ₹100 of that, so you pay ₹500 in cash. The voucher itself cost ₹50, so your total spend is ₹550.
Remember the membership itself costs money. If you only use it once, include that cost in your sums.
Check before you try
- Ask the outlet whether the coupon and the gift voucher can be used on the same bill. Some outlets do not allow it.
- Check the coupon's minimum bill, validity and eligible outlets.
- Check the gift voucher's expiry and where it can be redeemed.
Offers and redemption rules change. Treat these steps as a method to check, not a guaranteed price.
